Welcome to the French Unit of the Directorate of General Studies, FUTO.
The challenges imposed by globalization that is turning the world into a little hut; the geographical location of Nigeria in the West African Sub-region as an Anglophone island in the ocean of Francophone neighbours and the 1996 Presidential declaration of French as “the second official language in Nigeria, which led to the recommendation of French language as a General Studies Course for all undergraduate programmes in Nigerian Universities by the National Universities Commission (NUC) made the teaching of French in Nigeria a necessity.
